Northern Washoe County Ranch

This outstanding 9,980 deeded acre ranch in the northern part of Washoe County, consisting of 9,980 deeded acres which include two mountain reservoirs for gravity irrigation of alfalfa and pastures. The ranch is capable of running 1,500 head of cattle in a cow/calf operation. The ranch puts up enough alfalfa and grass hay to support the cattle in the winter months.

A 20,000 acre Bureau of Land Management (BLM) grazing allotment is owned and utilized by the ranch in combination with the ranches private deeded acres for grazing. There are numerous stock watering wells equipped with solar and windmill operated pumps to insure adequate distribution of water for livestock, as well as wildlife.

DIVERSIFICATION: In addition to livestock and hay sales the ranch has diversified into grass seed production. The ranch specializes in raising crested wheat, as well as Great Basin wild rye. This grass seed is cleaned and sold to other ranches undergoing range reseeding programs.

Also pertaining to the diversification of ranch income, a buffalo heard is being established. Buffalo on the hoof is selling for 5 times that of commercial beef, as their meat is higher in protein and lower in fat. Buffalo are also very adaptable to the high desert grazing conditions, and they are extremely adaptable to the high desert tranquil and undisturbed natural surroundings.

RECREATION: For the sportsmen and/or photographer, the area is abundant with mule deer, antelope, big horn sheep, sage hen, chukker, ducks, geese, and dove. The reservoir at the Cow Camp Unit is stocked with Rainbow Trout for the ardent angler.
